PBS Movie version of The Lathe of Heaven

Hip Hip Hooray!

WNET is going to release the film version of The Lathe of Heaven by Ursula Le Guin on home video and DVD formats. It may also show up again on PBS, though that's less certain than the home video release.

UPDATE 6/3/2000: It's being shown! Look at Lathe of Heaven web site they put up today.

This is one of the best SF movies ever made, and not many people have seen it since the first showing in 1979. If you are one of the many people who saw it then, was impressed, and haven't seen it since, take it from me that it stands the test of time. I managed to lay hands on a third generation video copy in 1994, and it's impressive. I put up a web page describing some of the reasons why it hasn't been available, and got inundated by email from people hoping to see it again.

So, you're going to get your chance. Joe Basile of WNET was kind enough to email me a couple months ago letting me know this would happen. I was dumb enough to lose his email in the ongoing Lathe flood. Here's his email of 6/29/99, which didn't get posted until 12/12/99.

Go to your favorite video store and ask for The Lathe of Heaven. Go to your second favorite store and ask them. And so on. And often!
