16 June 1993, Wednesday

Had breakfast with BeeBee today. He gave me a ticket to a classical concert for 6pm tonight.

Afterwards, I started for the zakh(market), and was promptly lost in a suburb. I asked two guys if they knew where I was. What eventually happened was that they became my guides and advisors for a day. Basically, I told them what I wanted and we spent all day looking for it. I needed a dehl, boots, pot, knife, and duffel bag. They found everything for around US$56. They even took me to their ger in the suburbs. I had some salty tea and what tasted like tortillas. Later, we went back to my hotel and I took pictures with the Polaroid (boy, is the Polaroid an attention-getter). The hotel staff came out and I ended up taking pictures for everyone. To my two newfound friends, Altanzol and Batbold, I gave a bolt of silk each. They said that they would meet me next Wednesday at noon after my return from riding.

After dinner I went to the concert. It was very good. They played some classical Mongol songs(I think) and some Chaikovsky concertos. I enjoyed it.

The other tour group has arrived. Right now I really don't feel like socializing with them. I guess I feel too attached to my own, dispersed, group. In time I'll probably start.

I miss you, Tracy.
