8 July 1993, Thursday

Less than a week to go.

It's sunny today. Of course, that could change in an hour. This is Mongolia, after all.

Today I'll buy some more souvenirs and check up on the address to the US Embassy. I want to see if they will allow me to send mail to Beebee via them.

It's getting cloudier, but it still doesn't look like rain.

Have a bit of the 'runs' today, but then I've been a little constipated for the last three days.

I need to talk to Beebee about getting some 'long song' recordings. It's what you hear a lot in the movie 'Close to Eden'.

I haven't been feeling that well today. Maybe I've finally caught 'Travellers' Diarrhea'.

Bought the rest of the souvenirs and got the embassy's address.

Beebee took the blank tape to the shop to record the 'long songs' and 'short songs' of various famous Mongol singers.

It got cloudier, rained a little, then stopped.

I hope Altansukh comes through with the stirrups.

Beebee came back with the tape, so now I have it! I listened to some of it on someones Walkman and though the quality wasn't there, the singing sounded beautiul. I look forward to listening to it at home.

I had a nice talk with some people in this tour group. I believe one was a Frenchman and the other was a fellow American. We talked mostly about Mongolia, China and Central Asia. We all agreed to the beauty of this country.

Buddhism is coming back here. Whether the younger people continue it, I don't know.
