A friend of mine got suspended today for sending "inappropriate" email to one of his friends/co-workers via internal email. Okay, so yah he probably shouldn't have done it. He realizes that, but it really did make me think about all the stupid stuff people send me and what I send out. Hell I even send stuff to my boss that makes me think twice now. Some of the stuff that I get makes me blush (and by the way that is hard to do.)

I actually knew someone (thankfully not very well) that got fired for downloading 2 gigs worth of pornographic material at work. Know how he got caught? He was asking for a new hard drive! He ran out of space on his original hard drive which raised some eyebrows since it was a 6 gig hard drive. The gal in IT got suspicious and took a look at his HD and boy was she surprised to find what she did!

I can only imagine the scenario. Digging around finding some movie file named HORSE.MOV and double clicking on it to bring it up and then.... I can only imagine the look on her face. God only knows what he really did download but the imagination does run wild. A myriad of different possible movie titles explode in my warped little mind. "Geeks in Garters" or how about "Whip Me, Beat Me, Erase My Floppy." I was LMAO for a couple of days over this since it was very hard not to have these stupid things pop in my mind every time I heard anything to do with this story.

Anyways... I digress!

Corporate American can be so stupid!! They are so worried about the bottom line and rules and regulations that they forget the bottom line on employee retention. Forget about the basics lets just run with common sense for a while. If an employee spends time screwing off that is lost money... sure. I give you that, but what about an salaried employee that spends 20 hours of overtime on an important project on Sunday because they are dedicated to the project and to the team, but during slow times screws off on the web for a couple of hours? My point is look at the big picture not just the bottom line case by case.

My friend was an integral and valuable member of the team. Needless to say he is leaving for a better job, more pay and better atmosphere and they will spend a fortune on hiring and training a new person. The ironic thing? This person will probably make more money and find other ways of screwing off... ASSANINE!

Not understanding Corporate America but maybe I will next time.
