And now a word from our sponsors...
My thoughts on TV. Commercials have now become funnier and more entertaining than the shows. I saw a commercial on ESPN for Nascar Racing. The pit crew was changing a baby and threw it back to its Mother back in the stands. Doesn't sound as funny in words, but trust me it was hilarious.
I miss some of the old commercials. Wendy's "where's the beef" back in the eighties was a classic. I hear some of the old nostalgic commercial icons are coming back. Mr. Whipple from Charmin and the Jolly Green Giant from Del Monte are just a few.
I want to see more animated commercials with classic icons in them. Icons like the Staypuff Marshmallow Man or the Pillsbury Dough Boy are entertaining. I even like the Snuggle bear commercials.
Remember some of these classic characters?
Mr. Koolaid
California Raisin Guys
Morris the Cat (not animated but cute!)
Mr. Salty
Charlie Tuna
Spot from 7UP
The Noid
Mr. Peanut
Tony the Tiger
Trix Rabbit
Nestle Quick Rabbit
The M&M Characters
Those are just a few characters that I could come up with on the fly.
Commercials truly are amazing in that if you have a successful spokes icon you can not only sell a product but sell the icon as well. Stuffed toys, PVC characters and coffee mugs are only the beginning.
Yes I confess I have several of these plastic figures here on my computer at home as well as stickers and buttons. Yes this goes back to my love for cartoons and such. That however is another subject which I will save for another day.
One of the most annoying commercials on TV is that stupid commercial with Mr. Roboto playing in the background for a car. I heard that commercial tonight and it has been stuck in my head ever since. I actually remember the day that I bought that Styx album. Yes I know I am dating myself by a.) using the word album b.) having a record player to play it on and c.) knowing the song and the band in the first place.
Right now my favorite commercial is the chewy granola commercial. "Are your kids talking to much? Shove one of these in their mouths." The announcer spews out and then flashes to a cute kid "My Daddy lost his paycheck at the races". Other kids say equally damning statements about their parents as well. My how times have changed.
Well my parting words for today????
Domo arigato Mr. Roboto... Till next time.Interested in more of my rants? BACK
